Nexium (esomeprazole) tablets are a type of stomach acid blocker used to treat acute reflux symptoms caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Nexium works by blocking the absorption of acid in the stomach, which helps to reduce symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, and nausea.
Nexium can cause serious side effects such as abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. More serious side effects can include difficulty passing urine, severe stomach pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing. More serious side effects are rare but may occur.
